The Western Showcase presents world-class artists working in a full range of media to the local art and rodeo community. Watercolorists and oils painters will be joined by jewelry makers, pencil, pen & ink artists, and bronze sculptors. Additionally, there will be Western tack, home décor, clothing and various other Western accessories. There will truly be something for everyone who’s Western at Heart!
Nearly 20,000 patrons stream through this exposition each year, visiting with artists, admiring the exclusive collection of wares, and gathering exceptional treasures for their personal use, to display in their homes, and to share as gifts. Come, be part of this very special event.
Don't miss this opportunity to see these wonderful works and meet and visit with terrifically talented artists. The show is free to the public. It’s located West of the arena in a giant circus type tent, directly adjacent to the highway (River Road). You can't miss it!
This show is juried, and applicants must submit a written application with 4 photos, slides or a CD of their artwork to be considered for the show. The show focuses on Western art and Western artists. The application packet for the 2009 show will be available on-line in the fall, 2008. |

This Year's Poster Artist: Don Nutt
Our poster artist this year is award-winning professional artist Don Nutt who grew up in the tiny eastern Washington town of Coulee City, where he still resides with his wife, Debbie, and their three children. “Our town rodeo arena was less than a block from our house, practically in my back yard. When they brought in stock for the rodeo or some other event, I’d sit on the fence and sketch the animals. I think I’m drawn to St. Paul because it reminds me so much of Coulee City, except the arena’s a bit larger,” Don laughs.
Don paints in oils and watercolors, although he’s proficient in a number of mediums, including pencil, acrylic, and charcoal. He also creates etchings, engravings, and collagraphs, as well as numerous other types of hand-made prints.
Western and wildlife themes dominate the majority of Don’s work, and he creates a lot of historical-based paintings. In 2006, he completed a 30 foot long mural for the Grant County (Washington) Historical Society, one of a number of public murals he’s designed and painted. He has recently finished a series of impressionistic landscapes, and is currently working on a series of oils depicting rivers and fishing, one of his other passions.
Don has also illustrated three nationally-marketed children’s books, “Unique Monique”, “Marvelous Maddie”, and most recently, “Cowboy Mac”.
